by providing residents access to books, magazines, DVDs, and other resources
they might otherwise purchase and discard.
The Library provides free access to educational resources for students
of all ages and entertainment materials
The Library provides free access to the Internet and additional electronic
resources for all who hold a library card
Library cards are issued at no cost to California residents.
Replacements will be provided free of charge in September to
anyone with a lost or damaged card.
As part of our month-long celebration,
we encourage everyone to get
a card and check out one of our many branches. If you would like to apply
for a library card or request a replacement card, just visit one of the 11 Marin
County Free Library branches. Our circulation staff would be happy to offer
you assistance! Historical Screening of Marin's Salomy Jane
The Anne T. Kent California Room and the California Film Institute
present a rare
screening of the silent film, Salomy Jane first released in 1914
by the California
Motion Picture Corporation, whose studios were located in San Rafael. Based
on
the Story of Bret Harte, Salomy Jane stars Beatriz Michele in a western
melodrama
set in the era of the 1849 Gold Rush.
Exteriors were filmed in Marin County as well
as the Russian River area.
Preceding this historic screening will
be an illustrated presentation by silent film historians David Kiehn (Niles
Essany Silent Film Museum) and William Sagar (Fairfax Historical Society). Piano
accompaniment by Bruce Loeb.

The Civic
Center Library has started a recycling program for used cell phones
and other small household electronic items. In addition to cell phones,
you can drop off empty inkjet and laser printer cartridges, digital cameras,
video games in their case, iPods, DVDs in their original case, laptop
computers and household batteries.
These items
do not need to be in working condition, but if you still have the power
cords and accessories please include them in your donation. You can drop
your electronic items off any time the library is open. There is a
donation box under the Green Living Library sign near the Check Out desk.
We regret that we are unable to accept large donations
such as monitors, televisions, fax machines or desk top computers, etc.
