This small preserve hosts a single trail that carries hikers to the top of a low
ridge above the San Geronimo Valley. Although only 32 acres in size, there is a
surprising diversity of trees and wildflowers here, and the hilltop is a
favorite place to watch butterflies in late spring and summer. At the east end
of the preserve, the Thorner Ridge Trail now connects to the bridge that
crosses Nicasio Valley Road and allows access to the adjacent Roy’s Redwoods
Open Space Preserve. Visitors who want to take a longer loop hike can also use
this trail to connect to the nearby French Ranch Open Space Preserve, but this
route requires a brief walk on the Lagunitas School Road.
