This preserve incorporates a tidal wetland that is a small
reminder of the vast salt marshes that once surrounded San Francisco Bay. This
quiet inlet at the north end of Richardson Bay, surrounded by cordgrass and
pickleweed, is home for several
endangered species, including the California clapper rail, and the salt-marsh
harvest mouse. While these species may not be evident to every visitor, the
number of shorebirds and waterfowl that rest and feed here is always an attraction.
