Ignacio Valley
The Ignacio Valley, Loma Verde and Pacheco Valle Open Space
Preserves form a contiguous band of undisturbed open space encompassing virtually the entire northern
slope of eastern Big Rock Ridge.

Indian Tree
Enjoy a walk through shaded woodlands to a magnificent ridge.
At the top, massive redwoods frame an open meadow filled with ferns and
butterflies.

Indian Valley
Located at the west end of Ignacio Valley, this preserve
wraps around the Indian Valley campus of the College of Marin. The trails and
roads in this preserve offer a variety of loop hikes through shaded forests of
oak and bay trees.

Horse Hill
The Alto Bowl and Camino Alto Open Space Preserves occupy
the ridge of Mount Tamalpais that runs between Corte Madera and Mill Valley.
The easternmost part of the ridge is Horse Hill, appropriately named for the
horses that have pastured there for many years.

King Mountain
The King Mountain Preserve, above the town of Larkspur, includes
a series of trails and trail easements that connect to the nearby Baltimore Canyon and Blithedale Summit
preserves. The King Mountain Loop Trail is a favorite route
that combines quiet forests and impressive views.

Little Mountain
This
preserve just west of the city of Novato is primarily undisturbed habitat,
consisting of oak studded grasslands on the southern slope, and the heavily
forested north slope that drops off
steeply above Novato Boulevard.

Loma Alta
Rising to a height of 1592 feet, this “tall hill” is
actually one of the highest points in Marin County. This preserve encompasses
most of the grass-covered south-facing slopes of this broad, gently sloping
hill.

Loma Verde
The Ignacio Valley, Loma Verde and Pacheco Valle Open Space
Preserves form a contiguous band of undisturbed open space encompassing virtually the entire northern
slope of eastern Big Rock Ridge.

Lucas Valley
This preserve includes much of the south-facing slope rising
above what is now known as Lucas Valley. The highlight of this
preserve is the new Big Rock Trail, which begins at the crest
of Lucas Valley Road and eases its way up to the Big Rock Ridge
Fire Road.

Maurice Thorner Memorial Open Space
This small preserve hosts a single trail that carries hikers
to the top of a low ridge above the San Geronimo Valley. The Thorner Ridge
Trail now connects to the bridge that crosses Nicasio Valley Road and allows
access to the adjacent Roy’s Redwoods Open Space Preserve.

From the Novato Valley, this oak studded mountain rises
1,558 feet to a summit which offers breathtaking views of the entire Bay Area.
