The Marin County Department of Parks and Open Space is pleased to announce a new partnership to strengthen and support the planning efforts at Bolinas Lagoon. The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary has joined our team and will take the lead in developing a Locally Preferred Plan (LPP) by spring 2008. The LPP will be developed through a public process with the goal of crafting a community-supported alternative. This alternative will be included in a revision of the Bolinas Lagoon Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study and Draft EIR/EIS. Public input will be complemented by a Working Group that will use science-based decision making to narrow the range of alternatives to be assessed when the study’s EIR/EIS process resumes in mid 2008. Through this new partnership we will be emphasizing:

  • The need to restore critical habitat while determining how to manage and mitigate anthropogenic influences and plan for climate change
  • The significance of Bolinas Lagoon along the Pacific Flyway
  • How Bolinas Lagoon relates to ecosystem sustainability at the local, regional, and national level.

This new partnership and planning process was unveiled to the community at a public meeting in Stinson Beach September 19. The Working Group held its first meeting Sept 20. Please scroll down to access the planning process schedule that includes the Working Group meeting schedule and the Working Group members list.
