COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES
Advocates (CASA) Marin Advocates for Children.
Every year more than half a million abused, neglected
children need safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from
one temporary home to another with no family to call their own. As trained
advocates, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers are appointed by
judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is
placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. CASA volunteers are
ordinary people who’re committed to doing what is best for the child. Volunteers
are trained in courtroom procedure, social services, juvenile justice system,
special needs of abused, neglected children. An 18 month commitment is required.

Senior Peer Counselors, Community Mental Health Services (CMHS), Health & Human Services..
Are you 55+ and looking to help Marin seniors through a variety of aging related issues? Peer Counselors are needed to provide one-to-one weekly counseling to senior clients in their homes, helping them deal with aspects of aging
while providing emotional support and practical resources to help comfort and empower them. Volunteer counselors will bring with them an interest in their own personal growth and the compassion and understanding that
older clients require. The program will offer its eight-week trainingsession, September 18 and continuing every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Volunteers will receive
education on issues of aging, training in basic counseling skills, and extensive information on community resources.

and benefit from the information yourself! Classes cover health education and screenings, stress management, child and parenting issues, and much more.
Help with pre-event activities and outreach, setting up and cleaning up after classes, and with the collection of evaluation forms.
This is a great volunteer job for someone who is creative and detail-oriented, and able to follow directions.

Center. Are you interested in providing support services to a valuable
community agency? Friendly, detail-oriented individual needed at the Legal
Self-Help center to enter information into spreadsheets and donor database, help
staff with the flow of clients, answer phones, assist with small projects, and
sort mail.

Do you have a legal background and interest in helping self-represented litigants? Clients need information
about a specific legal matters; Volunteers help diagnose legal issues, identify
and complete appropriate legal forms. The Center provides legal information; not
legal advice. You will also guide litigants to online resources and Nolo Press
books, helping to move clients through the intake process, inform them of court
procedures, filing fees, etc. This is a fun, fast-paced, very supportive
environment. Volunteers needed for M-F morning shifts (9:00 a.m. to Noon) and Thursday
afternoon shifts (1:00 to 4:30 p.m.).

Computer Tutor, Civic Center Library.
Merge your computer and people skills together and tutor novice computer users in Microsoft Word, Excel, basic emailing, and Internet tasks.
This is a great opportunity if you are calm and patient and are proficient with personal computers.
Volunteer will need to work well with staff to set up tutoring sessions.

sensitive tutors for eager adults 1.5-2 hours per week over a six-month period.

Housing Assistline Volunteer, Marin Housing Authority.
Help people solve their housing issues as Housing Assistline Volunteer for the Marin Housing Authority. Put callers in touch with community
resources so they can get help with rent, or even locate a refrigerator. Training will be provided. Volunteer should be compassionate, be a good
listener, and have a general interest in social services. Please have availability to make a six month commitment, and work at least 4 consecutive
hours a week.

The Housing Authority is looking for that special person who has a lot of energy and genuine affection and
understanding of elderly and disabled-persons' issues. Ideal
volunteer will have some computer skills. Possibility of working on a newsletter, if volunteer is interested.
Meet with residents, report problems to managers, and work in a team-oriented
group. Training will be provided. Schedule is somewhat flexible, ideally 1-3 days a week for 4 hours a day.

outgoing people to greet visitors to the park. Collect fees, answer the phone, direct park patrons, and interact with the public and staff.

PUBLIC WORKS
Senior Transit Ambassador, Public Works.
Are you an advocate for public transportation? Are you patient and
willing to teach others how to get around Marin using the bus system? The
Department of Public Works and Marin Transit are launching a new program to
educate senior citizens to gain independence and confidence by becoming public
transit-savvy. Find out how you can jump

SHERRIF'S OFFICE
Light Automotive Maintenance, Search and Rescue, Sherrif's Office.
Handy with automotive equipment? The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting
a volunteer to assist with light maintenance of SAR vehicles (oil, tires,
wipers), transferring them to the County Garage when maintenance is needed,
maintaining the SAR facility in orderly manner, maintaining SAR equipment as
needed, and requesting various supplies as needed. A volunteer could expect to
work 1-5 flexible hours a week, depending on operations and training activities.
This position is a support function only for the SAR Unit. Applicants must
possess a valid California Drivers License, and will go through interview
process and background check. One year commitment required.

will translate sensitive materials while working with a nurse practitioner, but
will not be present for physical exams. No medical background is required. One
clinic is Tuesday morning 8:30 – 11:30, and the other is Monday 3-5.
