The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the EMS system established to provide prehospital services. Utilizing input from system participants and consumer advocates, planning efforts are directed toward maintaining a system which balances the unique skills and interests of participating organizations to achieve and maintain a coordinated system of emergency medical care available to all consumers within Marin County. This program is also the regulatory extension of the EMS Authority and has responsibility for interpreting and enforcing state regulations relating to the performance of prehospital personnel.
Five fire service based providers and two privately owned companies provide emergency medical services. Fire provider agencies include seventeen individual fire departments fielding twelve ALS transport units staffed by 2 EMT-Ps or 1 EMT-1 and 1 EMT-P.
There are three hospitals, all providing basic emergency services and on-line paramedic consultation as needed.
