2006/07 Highlights The Division of Aging made significant contributions toward achieving its stated four-year goals. Following are some of the highlights from FY 2006/07.
IMPROVING HEALTH & WELL-BEING
The Division of Aging and Marin County Commission on Aging, cosponsored with Marin General/Novato Community hospitals and Kaiser Permanente, the third annual Healthy Aging Symposium, a day-long health education event with featured experts in "The Power of Lifestyle Changes", attended by 400 older adults.
In collaboration with the Marin County Commission on Aging, presented a series of community forums and educational presentations on Part D, reverse mortgages and other timely topics.
The Divison of Aging, in partnership with the Marin District Attorney received a $450,000 3 year federal grant to do law enforcement training on elder abuse.
COMBATING ISOLATION
Collaborated with the Division of Community Mental Health to expand outpatient mental health services for older adults, The Hope Program.
The Commission worked with the Center for Volunteer and Non-Profit Leadership to launch Master of Marin, a project to increase civic engagement among older adults.
HEALTHY AGING COMMUNITY
In collaboration with the District Attorney’s office, Division of Social Services Adult Protective Services, and Legal Aid of Marin, the Elder Abuse Task Force continuing elder abuse awareness and response in the community to increase.
Collaborated with Dominican University, the American Automobile Association and the Sheriff’s Department to serve 90 older adults through CarFit, a program to assess and improve the driving skills of older adults in Marin County.
Assisted with the coordination of the Marin County Senior Information Fair, a day-long event that showcased over 100 trade booths, flu shots and entertainment, to approximately 4,000 older adults.
The Commission on Aging acquired nationally recognized news reporter Spencer Michels to host the Commission sponsored television show, A Time for All Ages.
