Recorded Documents
The Recorder's Section of our office maintains an archive containing over 8 million documents
recorded since 1841. These documents include deeds, deeds of trust, liens and maps. Each document
is numbered and listed on an index. The index is updated daily with the prior day's recordings.
In addition to recorded documents, this section of our office also maintains copies of birth,
death and marriage certificates. Copies of public documents are available for a fee in the Copy
Center, room 232.

Once you have found the information you are looking for and want to purchase a Certified copy of a Marriage Certificate, please follow
the steps below.
Please Note: Divorce records are maintained by the Superior Court. To Contact them directly Email: courtrecords@marincourt.org or Telephone: (415) 473-4131.

about a Marriage Prior to the dates shown, please refer to the procedure listed below.
Our Marriage records are open and available for public viewing without charge at our office in the Marin County Civic Center building
in San Rafael, California.

To Order By Mail: To order a certified copy of a Marriage license by mail please complete this form and follow the instructions on the form

Please include with your letter a check payable to County Recorder for the amount shown below, and a self addressed stamped envelope. For
all out-of-state requests, please submit payment in the form of cashier's check or money order. Personal checks are accepted only if imprinted and drawn on a California bank account.

Send us an FAX us at 415-499-7893,
and include the following:
- What type of document you are requesting, (Marriage Certificate)
- Fill out and sign the: Marriage Certificate Request Form
or Marriage Certificate Request Form (Spanish)
- Your type of payment, i.e. Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover.
- Your credit card number and expiration date.
- Name of credit card user.
- Daytime phone number where you can be reached.
- Address where you would like the certificate mailed.
Note: There will be a $6.00 Credit Card surcharge on Fax orders.
We will process your request as soon as we receive it.
